Software and languages

TranslateYourSoftware is a type of content manager specifically for the standard elements of a user interface or application, designed for the translation process with translation glossaries, references, foreign spellchecks, searches, linguistic rules, and more.

From a linguistic perspective, software data for translation falls into two categories:

BASIC DATA:

Basic data includes full sentences, menu items, full prompts and messages - any content where one database entry in the original language equals one database entry in the foreign language. For importing basic data, there is a "click to import" feature for Excel, MS Word tables, and delimited data. Once your data is imported, it will display online with secure password access for translators to perform their work.

To further improve the translator's understanding of your product, you can add screen shots or video. Translators can see the images as they work. And if you have an existing Glossary of preferred translations, click to import as well.

DATA WITH VARIABLES:

A sentence with variables will be perfectly translated in any language only if it is in a specific manner in the original language. In this way, when sentences with variable content are displayed for translation, they will result in grammatically perfect output in the new language. Instead of reading like a translation, your software will seem to be originally written in the new language. This perfect grammar also applies to complex audio product translations such as kiosks and IVR.

Quality assurance and quality control

One of the major issues of software localization is the QA/QC process. Due to the global nature of TranslateYourSoftware, online QA/QC for many steps of the process is facilitated. And, for the "real deal" - review of your software's localization effort - you will find technology quality assurance support through experienced professionals listed in the Directory of Translators. NDA's and Confidentiality Agreements are common and respected.

The System Localizer

Up to now, sentences that are constructed "on the fly" with variable content have not automatically generated correct grammar in another language. And such sentences with variables usually demand code rework language by language, with the developer being required to know the linguistic rules in order to program and prepare content management. Now, the localization library, The System Localizer, fills that gap. Example:

English:      2 items were shipped on June 4th, 2009

     Japanese:   year 2009 6-month 4-day on 2-boo item shipped.

For developers, the above Japanese is:

  • A complete reversal of content order
  • Additional information not contained in the English original
  • Selection of special number ("2-boo") from among 13 other number sets in Japanese.

The developer is required to know that:

  • The date is written and spoken differently in Japanese
  • "2-boo" should be used for "two", not "fukah" or "2-ken"
  • "item" is singular in Japanese, not plural

TranslateYourSoftware and its sister product, the patented System Localizer solution, support developers not only to translate static text and database content, but also contain the linguistic rules to handle dynamically created sentences with variable content. In this way, developers do not need to know whether the word "deleted" should be masculine, feminine, singular or plural for a particular display, and they can devote their time to creating new technology.
