Translation Options
TranslateYourVideo offers a wide choice of approaches to script translation, and explains how to do-it-yourself, if you are not a seasoned pro. One of the greatest assets of TranslateYourVideo is that you can choose how you want to translate. You can translate yourself, find a qualified professional translator in the Directory of Translators, translate 'wiki-style' with group participation, or use the built in automated translation. This pleases clients and often lowers costs, perhaps dramatically.
Because translation can occur either on-line directly in the TranslateYourVideo software, or in an MS Word or Excel file, anyone anywhere can participate. And once scripts are done, the software creates recordings scripts, and script for the video editor to insert on-screen graphic text.

Translate Scripts Yourself
If you are a professional translator or amateur translator, you can use TranslateYourVideo in a choice of many ways to manage and organize script translations for your clients, and enhance your service to multimedia customers. TranslateYourVideo is password protected. Your favorite translator can translate on-line or translate in a special MS Word or Excel file. If your project is in multiple languages, the password dictates the language that your translator can access. One of the greatest advantages is that TranslateYourVideo is that clients and global employees can participate from anywhere in the world. Automated Translation Software
TranslateYourVideo has built-in automated translation software in over a dozen languages. This software will provide better results than the freeware peppering the internet. The cost to use this software is only pennies, but has a great advantage over free-bees - the ability to train the software and improve its results. However, it is extremely important to note that if you have an original video or timing that you are trying to match, automated translation will be far too long to fit, and must be adapted to be as short as the original language script. Moreover, top professional translators are artists, and will not review or adapt automated translations. But you can review and adapt yourself or with friends. Or, try the companion software Subtitle Your Video where automated translation is much more useful.
There is a Glossary feature that enables you to pre-translate and control translation of words and expressions. To clarify this Glossary control, consider the phrase:
"Click Log In, then enter your password"
For log in, free-bee software may return in chopped wood, and enter may be translated as come in. With the Glossary feature, you can pre-designate exactly how "log in" and "enter" should be translated for this project or client, for this particular language. TranslateYourVideo will remember this preference for other projects.
Pro: Automated translation enables companies that could not otherwise translate anything, to begin to provide basic support for people who speak other languages. The more the Glossary is improved, the more comprehensible the results. For training courses for example, that are extremely long, and for clients with very limited resources, automated translation will fill the need. Be sure to ask someone who is very good to "clean" the translation.
Con: The whole world truly wishes that automated translation would be perfect, but it is not. Automated translation produces translated text that is longer, chunkier, heavier and more stilted than text by a professional translator. Even when automated translation is "cleaned" by a native speaker, it may not meet the standards of professional voice talent. You may find that certain parts of automated translation simply cannot be spoken as-is. And it is important to note that good translators will not clean up automated translations. Not because they are snobs, but because they are artists, and automated translation is simply too discombobulated, even though may be almost intelligible.

Private "Wiki-style" Translation
Made famous by Google's Wikipedia, "Wiki" is now used to mean total free access by the general public to participate in on-line editing. TranslateYourVideo provides a private version of "wiki-style" - one in which anyone with permission and password can participate in translation, review and approval cycles. This approach is excellent for groups, such as corporations, churches or business organizations, that want to work together on translation projects. Users with passwords can change or update translations. For protection, there is an "Approved For Release" feature that will freeze a final version, if desired, to prevent further modification.
Pro: This is an excellent group activity, and can mean that translation can be free of charge to the project "owner", yet the quality can turn out to be good. When many people participate in a project, the end result will probably be one of good grammar and accuracy as long as the members are educated. With Wiki-style, the final result will be acceptable - and importantly - FREE - but will not be instant. There will be a long pause for many people to be involved.
Con: Achieving a free translation of good quality through group participation will take longer than hiring a translator. Many people must participate because the participants will be amateur translators, never perfect. It also takes time to attract participants to this project and give them time input. So, with Wiki-style, a translation will improve with age and number of visitors.
